This product provides the ability to distribute and synchronize structured, relational data (such as data stores within Oracle, SQL,
and other database products) providing multi-directional database replication. SelectiveSync™ can be easily integrated and customized
to plug into any existing application. It provides the most time-efficient and cost-effective solution to keep relational data fully
synchronized across a distributed or mobile organization.
SelectiveSync™ Product Features
1. Peer-to-peer database replication with global synchronization
2. Net change database synchronization
3. Maintains data consistency across unreliable wireless ad hoc networks
4. Works with all robust relational database
5. Brings newcomers up-to-date with information from distributed databases
6. Respects transactional integrity over network
7. Single-Writer mode: the person who wrote data is the only one who can change it (for single source data)
8. Lockstep mode: only one person at a time can make changes to data, but everyone can read (for collaborative data and conflict resolution)
9. Guaranteed data delivery with error recovery mechanisms (data will synchronize from exact place where connectivity was lost)
10. Optimized to operate in low-bandwidth high-packet loss environments
11. Works across any Java-based platform
12. FIPS 140-2 Compliant
SelectiveSync™ was designed to meet the following user requirements:
1. "Peer-to-Peer" Deployment Scenario: in which the peers are continuously synchronizing. As such, SelectiveSync™ is ideal for
mobile units that must maintain a shared view of data and are connected by wireless links.
2. "Hostile" Network Environments: characterized by very limited bandwidth, high rates of packet loss, and random node
destruction. SelectiveSync™ compensates for the hostile network using various techniques like transaction retransmission,
gossiping and eavesdropping protocols. SelectiveSync™ compensates for limited bandwidth by using compression algorithms that
are particularly suited for small fragments of database data being transmitted over a network.
3. High Semantics: including assurances that transactions are accurate and complete (ACIDity), prevention of conflicting
transactions (one-copy serializability), ordering transactions across all nodes (global transaction ordering), and the prevention
of dirty reads (database reads of old data that has not yet been updated). These high semantics are identical to what is guaranteed
by a traditional, monolithic Relational Database Management System (RDBMS). Since high semantics impose a significant performance
penalty, SelectiveSync™ provides two different replication modes, one of which provides full semantics, while the other provides
more limited semantics but with higher performance.
